Rapid Rail International has taken a fresh approach to the traditional transmission and distribution monopole climbing and working ladder, commonly known throughout the industry as a McGregor Ladder.
McGregor Ladders have been used across the U.S. for decades to provide climbing and working access on transmission monopoles. Building on this familiar and proven concept, RRI has developed a new and unique ladder design that combines improved structural strength with integrated fall protection.
At the heart of the RRI design is our strengthened “J” spine, creating a robust climbing and working ladder engineered specifically for transmission monopoles. The addition of our Tri-Step provides climbers with convenient access to OSHA 5,000 lbf compliant anchorage at every step of the climb.
Importantly, the RRI Tri-Step Ladder is designed to fit standard McGregor Ladder clip spacing. This allows utilities, structure designers and monopole manufacturers to specify the RRI system without requiring changes to existing ladder clip locations, established transmission standards or monopole designs.

How The RRI Monopole Safety Ladders Work
Building on the traditional McGregor Ladder concept used across the transmission industry for many years, RRI has developed a modern approach to monopole climbing and working access. Designed to fit standard McGregor Ladder clip spacing, the RRI Tri-Step Ladder retains the familiar mounting arrangement while introducing integrated fall-protection anchorage throughout the climb.
At the heart of the system is RRI’s unique Tri-Step. Replacing traditional climbing bolts, the Tri-Step provides a wider, ergonomically designed climbing surface with integrated anti-slip features. Each Tri-Step also incorporates an OSHA-compliant 5,000 lbf (22.2 kN) anchor point, giving climbers convenient access to fall-protection anchorage at every step of the climb.
By combining the climbing step and anchor point into a single component, the RRI Tri-Step Ladder provides a purpose-engineered evolution of the traditional monopole ladder while maintaining compatibility with established McGregor Ladder clip spacing.
RRI Tri-Step Ladders are available in both climbing and working configurations, and in galvanized or weathering steel to suit the monopole specification.
